Summit Preparatory School Summit Preparatory School is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit coed therapeutic boarding school located in the heart of the mountains of northwest Montana. The Summit Model, developed by Co-Founder and Executive Director, Rick Johnson, M.S.W., promotes psychosocial maturity through our three main program aspects, interwoven for optimal success: professional therapeutic programming, residential life/emotional growth and college preparatory academics. Our students range in age from 14-18 and come from all over the United States and internationally. Students are assigned to a single gender treatment team of 8 to 10 students served by dedicated team of staff that includes a therapist, a teacher and house parents.Guided by students’ individualized treatment plans, our professional licensed clinical staff provide individual, group, cognitive, DBT, expressive arts, and experiential therapies, including challenge trips several times a year; an intensive family therapy program, and medication management by our onsite child and adolescent psychiatrist, if needed. Participation in AA and NA meetings, and equine therapy, is also available. The residential community milieu is an important part of Summit Preparatory School life. Our residential program staff members are all Bachelors-level trained folks who love working with young people and encompass a variety of personal talents and interests to pass along, from soccer and snowboarding to music and yoga. These opportunities are designed to spark healthy passions in students while promoting social skills and healthy long lasting relationships with peers and positive mentoring adults. Summit Preparatory School offers excellent fully accredited college prep academics designed to engage students in the development of personal education and career goals while preparing them for college. Our teachers are all certified in the areas they teach, and are passionate about working with teens in a therapeutic school setting. We have low student-teacher ratios, a strong focus on the arts, and can accommodate mild learning issues. Summit Preparatory School is located on 520 wooded acres just minutes from Kalispell, Montana, near Glacier National Park and the airport. Our location was purposefully chosen to allow students opportunities for therapeutic adventures and outdoor recreation; community involvement, such as volunteering, access to cultural events, or classes at the local community college; and proximity to quality medical care. Our outstanding facility includes an indoor swimming pool, full-size gym, and weight room; a fully-equipped science lab, organic garden, team campsites and playing field.
